This month’s question for Wheego CEO Mike McQuary is:
Q: “What can you tell us about crash testing ?”
McQ: We are very happy with how the Wheego LiFe performed in recent
crash tests. When we start selling cars the National Highway Transportation
Safety Administration (NHTSA) will buy a car and conduct their own crash
testing; we expect that will happen in September. They do not assign a
"star rating." That happens when the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety
(IIHS) buys a car and performs their own series of tests.
Wheego Whip LSV on the GSA List
The Wheego Whip LSV is available on the General Services Administration
Schedule 23 for Low Speed Vehicles (LSVs). The GSA contract facilitates
Wheego Electric Cars selling LSVs to Federal Agencies, affiliated
companies and military installations across the U.S.
Government agencies are looking for ways to meet Executive Order 13423 -
"Strengthening Federal Environmental, Energy, and Transportation
Management," signed by former President George W. Bush. This order
mandates that federal agencies (a) improve energy efficiency and reduce
greenhouse gas emissions of the agency, through reduction of energy
intensity by (i) 3 percent annually through the end of fiscal year 2015, or
(ii) 30 percent by the end of fiscal year 2015, relative to the baseline of the
agency’s energy use in fiscal year 2003. Moving government fleets to
all-electric will go a long way toward meeting their emission reduction goals.
The Wheego Whip LSV is now listed on GSA Schedule 23 for LSV’s under
contract number GS-30F-0036W. It is the only all-electric, fully enclosed and
air conditioned car on the GSA List now. We will also submit the full-speed
LiFe for approval when it begins shipping in September.
Wheego At Bonnaroo
Wheego provided 8 Wheego Whip LSV’s for the staff and artists to drive
“behind the scenes” at Bonnaroo
, the annual music mega-festival on a
700-acre farm near Manchester, Tennessee. The festival brings 100 bands
and 100,000 fans together for a four-day “green” music celebration. The
artists and staff who drove the Wheego’s loved not having to stop to fuel up,
and appreciated the zero emissions and no noise pollution for the festival.
Since temperatures climbed into the high 90’s daily, they also loved the a/c!
