Mike McQuary | CEO
Mike McQuary (McQ) is the Chief Executive Officer of the Company. Prior to joining the Company, he was the CEO of Brash Music for 5 years. Before that he was the President of the ISP EarthLink after its merger with MindSpring for 2 years. He was the President and Chief Operating Officer of ISP MindSpring for 5 years. Prior to MindSpring, he served for 9 years in a variety of sales, marketing, operations, and management positions with a division of Mobil Corporation.
Marc Barbier | Big Data Engineer
Marc has worked on a wide variety of big data and analytics projects primarily focused in the connected vehicle space. He helped develop the data systems for Verizon’s solution to the Oregon Department of Transportation Road Usage Charge program. This program is the first State system that processes vehicle driving data to compare actual fuel usage and fuel tax cost versus the normalized state-wide fuel tax. At Wheego, Marc brings his knowledge of data science and big data systems to solve problems using the technologies of the Hadoop ecosystem. Marc has a BS in Mathematics and an MS in Applied Statistics from Kennesaw State University.
James Barfield | Director of Autonomous Technology
James is currently working to build the artificial intelligence platform to create deep learning algorithms to power self-driving vehicles. Formerly, James worked as the strategy and business development strategic initiatives manager for telematics offerings at Verizon. James has also served a variety of roles related to strategy and innovation in the telematics, mobile health, machine learning, big data, vehicle data analytics, and future connected technology spaces. He has worked for both large companies and startups with an emphasis on innovation for roadmap progression, additions to current technologies, new business cases, new ventures, and proof of concepts as well as full lifecycle product development and engineering. James has filed more than 25 patents and holds BS and MS degrees in Electrical Engineering from Georgia Tech.
Brian Dean | Technical Support Manager
Brian Dean is from Marietta, Georgia, on the northwest side of Atlanta. He graduated from Kennesaw State University in 1985 with a BBA in Accounting. After 3 years with a local CPA firm, he accepted a position with an industrial manufacturer’s representative firm in Kennesaw, Georgia, and was with the company through 2004. In 2005 & 2006 he worked in sales positions and then joined Wheego in the spring of 2007, opening the Ruff & Tuff of Marietta dealership and also working as a Sales Representative for Wheego. He is currently working for Wheego in Field Technical Support, primarily training new Wheego dealers and providing technical support for both dealers and customers.
Nicholas Gan | Embedded Systems Engineer
Nicholas earned his bachelor’s degree from UC Berkeley in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, specializing in Cyber-Physical Systems and Signal Processing. While studying toward his degree, he was a key member of Berkeley Formula Racing (BFR). Training under and eventually leading BFR’s Electrical Subsystem, he directed the development and manufacturing of the electrical subsystems on board two open-wheel internal combustion race cars that competed in the 2014 and 2015 Formula SAE Competition at Nebraska. Both vehicles were finalists in the design event of the competition, one of up to eight teams nominated from a field of around 80 entries. BFR placed 8th overall in the 2014 season, the team’s best performance at the time. In his spare time, Nicholas has also developed data acquisition solutions for Berkeley’s Human Assistive Robotic Technology (HART) Lab, assisting in the development of improved ADAS technology.
J.Gilman | Creative director
J handles all of our print, design, and web development. If anything is mispelled or “funny-looking,” it’s probably his fault. Specializing in corporate identity design and marketing, J has a background in fine arts such as calligraphy and illustration, as well as mechanical arts like photography and printmaking. This gives him a unique insight and wide range of application ability in marketing, branding and the mediums used to promote them. From typography to image manipulation, he can make anything look good to the right people, online or in print. He enjoys negative space, brevity and the color gray. He holds a BFA in graphic design from Georgia State University.
Ron Keeton | CFO
Ron Keeton is the Chief Financial Officer of the Company. He is a practicing Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with over thirty years tax, accounting and auditing experience. Prior to joining the company, he served as outside accountant since the company’s inception. Earlier in his career, he was a small business auditor with Price Waterhouse (now PriceWaterhouseCoopers). He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in accounting from the University of Georgia and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill).
Gabriel Miranda | VP Engineering
Gabriel started his career in the EV world as a Battery Engineering intern at Tesla Motors. After completing his BS and MS degrees in Electrical Engineering from Georgia Tech, he joined Wheego in an effort to bring vehicle development in-house. Before rejoining Wheego, he spent time as a Project Manager in Tesla’s New Product Introduction (NPI) group. There he was in charge of managing engineering design changes into mass production for various Model S components, including 17” touchscreen, dash cluster, on-board chargers, high voltage junction boxes, and high voltage cables. Gabriel now focuses on building a solid engineering team, maintaining a top notch RND facility, and developing strong relations with suppliers overseas.
Susan Nicholson | VP Car Electronics
Susan has twenty years’ experience with Atlanta technology companies. After graduating from Georgia Tech with a degree in Electrical Engineering, she joined Hewlett-Packard. From there, she worked as a freelance technical writer, and then joined AudioFAX, an Atlanta technology startup. Susan also worked for MindSpring for five years, managing Public Relations and Corporate Communications. Forays away from technology included owning and operating a local folk art gallery.
Leslie Nolen | VP Customer Experience & Logistics
Leslie is also a MindSpring/EarthLink alumni. There she served in several roles including PR Manager, Project Manager for Web Design and Senior Manager for the Interface Design Team. She also has experience in journalism, sales, restaurant management, real estate, jewelry design and kitchen and bath design. Leslie graduated from Georgia Southern University with a BA in Communications and a Minor in Business.
Bill Ostrowski | Director of China Operations
Bill is currently the Director of China Operations at Wheego. He has lived in Shenzhen China since 2002, holds degrees in Chinese language and culture, and speaks fluent Mandarin Chinese. Through his start up consulting company, Ni Hao Power Solutions, he has been involved with numerous electric vehicle, energy storage, battery and battery charger projects since 2005; with roles in operations, manufacturing, purchasing, quality control, and sales. Bill has done on the ground consulting work in China for several large US-based EV OEMs throughout the years, including Wheego since 2009.
Amon Pereira | Mechanical Engineer
Amon joined Wheego after receiving his BS in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University. During his time at Purdue, he was part of Purdue Electric Racing, an organization dedicated to designing and manufacturing an electric Formula-style racing car to compete in the Formula SAE Electric Competition. He lead the design and manufacture of PER’s braking systems and then of its battery pack. Before joining Wheego, he was also responsible for the overall on time design and manufacture of the 2015 PER Race Car. The 2015 PER Race Car became 1 of the 4 out of 20 competing cars to pass the strict Formula SAE Electric safety inspection.
Les Seagraves | VP Product & Legal
Les is responsible for the development of new vehicles and regulatory and safety compliance. He is an attorney with over 20 years experience and a legal authority on many electric vehicle issues including tax credits, state laws and Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. Before coming to Wheego, Les Seagraves spent 12 years at internet service providers MindSpring and EarthLink where he held various positions in sales, customer service, web design and the legal department. As Vice President and Chief Privacy Officer, Les helped EarthLink establish a national reputation as a privacy leader and customer advocate against spam and online fraud. As an internet law expert, he testified before the US Senate on privacy issues and has advised federal, state and local governments on consumer protection issues. Before his internet days Les was a prosecutor and a congressional press secretary. A native Atlantan, Les has degrees in Journalism and Law from the University of Georgia.
Shreyas Shivaprasad | Control Systems Engineer
Shreyas is a graduate of Ohio State University, where he received an MS degree in Mechanical Engineering (specializing in Automotive Controls). Prior to graduation, Shreyas worked as a fuel systems engineering intern at Putsch Racing in Columbus, Ohio, to convert a carbureted fuel injected engine into an electronically controlled system. After graduation, Shreyas launched his career as a Controls Systems Software Engineer at Electric Vehicles International (EVI). At Wheego, his responsibilities include leading the design and development efforts for supervisory control algorithms, development of test platforms, vehicle calibration, and vehicle testing. Shreyas’s passion lies in the interaction of cars and computers. He believes that a better user experience can be generated for the driver by giving more control to the computers on a vehicle and will continue to explore more such avenues at Wheego Technologies.
Tom Taylor | VP-Internet of Things
Tom Taylor has worked on a wide range of business and technology systems from early IBM advanced office products to airborne military antenna systems. He has also worked on advance microwave materials to satellite video and broadband applications. Recently he helped produce advanced electric vehicle technology, wearable healthcare devices, automotive aftermarket systems and IOT Big Data systems. Tom joined Wheego Technologies to assist in building advanced electric vehicles for the Global Market and to build an Internet of Things business. Previously, Tom worked at Hughes Telematics as VP of Engineering and Technology and at Verizon Telematics. He helped to transform the connected car industry from its early analog days into a data and features rich digital world.
Stephen Welch | Senior Engineer Machine Learning
Stephen has developed novel machine learning-based approaches to problems including snowfall sensor placement, acoustic musical instrument pickup design, predicting lead-acid battery life, detecting vehicle crashes, and detecting falls using mobile personal emergency response systems for senior citizens. Stephen is also the author of the YouTube channel Welch Labs, where he presents machine learning and other complex material in an approachable and accessible format. Stephen has a BS in Electrical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a MS in Environmental Engineering from the University of California, Berkley.
Trevor Wilcox | Mechanical Engineer
Trevor first began working on vehicles at the age of 14. While working as a custodian at his local automotive shop, he would often lend a hand to the mechanics, which developed a foundation of fundamental automotive knowledge, and ignited a passion for all things mechanical within him. He recently earned his BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD), with academic distinction. In addition to his coursework at UMD, Trevor worked on drive train design as a member of the Formula SAE team, and designed and built a rocket as a project manager for the High-Powered Rocketry team. When he wasn’t in class or doing extracurricular activities, Trevor was working as an Engineering Intern for Superior Lidgerwood Mundy Corp. (SLM).
Jake Zeppa | Product & Technical Development Engineer
Jake is an engineer with over 10 years experience building and designing various race vehicles, and 5 years testing and designing Lithium based systems. He is a graduate of Physics from UC Berkeley, with emphasis on advanced electrodynamics and quantum mechanics. Prior to joining Wheego, he owned and operated H&A Tuning, a company responsible for building all aspects of various race related vehicles. He then spent many years doing pre-production analysis for battery and solar related consumer equipment. His work focused heavily on efficiency, as well as Li-ion battery lifetime testing and failure analysis. During his time at UC Berkeley he was also a member of the university’s solar race vehicle team, CalSol. Though he had a hand in almost all aspects of the solar vehicle from design to production, he is most proud of his role as battery lead. Managing a small team, he led the design, constructing and testing of various battery modules.
