Dear Wheego Enthusiast:
Wheego welcomes two new dealers:
Wheego of Jacksonville, Florida and Green Wheels LTD in Chicago, Illinois!
Wheego of Jacksonville is part of the Nimnicht family of dealerships, and is housed in a former Hummer showroom:
Wheego National Sales Manager Ken Wambold welcomes the new dealer. “The location and facility are perfect for Wheego. The showroom formerly displayed Hummers, and we think this evolution to a green, eco-friendly product and a new technology will serve the Jacksonville market well. The Nimnicht name is highly respected in Florida, and rightfully so. The Nimnichts are the number one Chevy, Buick and GMC dealer in the greater Jacksonville area, and consistently receive top marks in customer satisfaction surveys.”
The new Nimnicht dealership, Wheego of Jacksonville, is located at 11491 Philips Highway in Jacksonville. Wheego of Jacksonville will carry both the full-speed Wheego LiFe and our low-speed Wheego Whip. Wheego of Jacksonville will display the Wheego vehicles at the Jacksonville International Car & Truck Show on February 8-10, 2013. The show is held at the Prime Osborn Convention Center in Jacksonville.
Our new Chicago dealer, Green Wheels LTD, is located at 1540 N. Western Avenue.
“This is a family-owned business which was started in the 1940’s,” explains Ken Wambold. “In addition to a demonstrated expertise in electric vehicles, Green Wheels offers an eco-friendly service solution to gas-powered cars. They pride themselves on a completely green facility: recycling used belts and hoses, using a soy-based alternative to WD 40, and offering an ‘eco-tuning’ service to help get the most energy-efficient operation out of a car. Green Wheels sells solar panels and wind turbines, and offers charging stations powered by solar and wind. We feel our all-electric plug-in car perfectly complements this Ecology-minded dealership.”
Illinois has one of the most generous state rebate programs for EVs: in addition to the $7500 Federal Tax Credit, Illinois now offers up to 10% of the purchase price as a cash rebate.
Green Wheels will show the Wheego vehicles at the 2013 Chicago Auto Show, held February 9-18 at McCormick Place, 2301 S. Lake Shore Drive in Chicago. The Chicago Auto Show is the largest auto show in North America, covering more than a million square feet in the McCormick Place complex. Watch for Green Wheels in booth number SH46.
Wheego is also exhibiting in February at the North American Auto Dealers Association show in Orlando, Florida. We’ll be meeting potential new dealers to add to our national network.
How does the Wheego LiFe do in cold weather?
Driver Paul Hill shared a Facebook post this week:
“A rare bit of snow in Suffolk, Virginia but the Wheego is topped up and ready to go in the cold morning; expecting 18F.”
Adding Noise to EV’s?
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has proposed a “quiet car rule” that mandates noise levels for all cars when they are moving slowly. NHTSA thinks the new rule could “prevent 2,800 pedestrian and cyclist injuries over the life of each model year of hybrid vehicle.” Advocates for blind pedestrians support the new ruling. Many environmentalists disagree, pointing out that EVs combat noise pollution as well as air pollution. Read more about the rule and its pros and cons in this article in Atlantic Cities. The article also includes sample sound files proposed by NHTSA.
