EV Infrastructure Funding in the US
Sixteen projects across the country will receive a total of $8.5 million through
the Department of Energy's Clean Cities initiative to support community planning
for plug-in electric vehicles and charging infrastructure. The funding recipients range
from communities with extensive EV planning experience to those that are eager to
begin, but have not had the resources to do so. These one-year projects will help
communities address their specific EV infrastructure needs, such as updating
permitting processes, revising codes, training municipal personnel, promoting
public awareness, or developing incentives. Projects were announced in the
following states: California, Georgia, Texas, Kansas, Oregon, New York, Florida,
Hawaii, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

Progress Energy providing electric car chargers

Progress Energy is now offering North Carolina customers home charging stations
for plug-in electric cars at little or no cost. The Raleigh-based utility announced that
it is accepting customer applications for grants that will cover up to $1500 of the
cost of purchasing and installing a charging station. Progess is providing the
charging equipment under a federally funded research project designed to help it
better understand how the 240-volt charges will impact the electric grid. They
hope to expand the program to their South Carolina customers. Read more about
the project here.

Nation’s Largest Parking Garage Operator Plans EV Charging Stations

Car Charging Group Inc., a provider of electric vehicle charging
services,  announced a partnership with Central Parking System
Inc. and its subsidiary, USA Parking System Inc., the nation's largest
parking garage operator, to provide EV charging services at locations
nationwide via Coulomb Technologies' ChargePoint(R) Network.
"There
are close to 17,000 parking garages in the U.S., and they will play one
of the most vital roles in the development of a national EV charging
infrastructure," said Brian Golomb, Director of Sales of Car Charging.
"By partnering with two of the most important companies in this sector
-- companies that understand the benefits of electric vehicles -- we
will move much quicker in the rollout of this nationwide infrastructure."

Car Charging Group plans to install EV charging stations at sites
owned by the two parking garage operators. The operators have
2,200 locations nationwide with 1.1 million parking spaces.
